“Good Governance in Sport” 2014 Paul Horvath and Emily Lupo gave an overview of the Governance matters that should be considered by all sporting organisations.
“Employment Law Seminar” 2014 breakfast seminar discussion on best practice initiatives in employment. Paul Horvath and Emily Lupo provided an overview of the fundamental employment law matters that apply to every sports business and organisation.
“Torts and Sport Law” 2014 Lecture provided to students at Victoria University. Paul Horvath and Emily Lupo gave an overview of negligence in sport and discussed some of the most recent and topical negligence issues in AFL, Rugby League and in Martial Arts.
“Coaching and the Law” 2014 Lecture provided to students at ESS Performance (Sports Medicine, Training and Rehabilitation Service). Emily Lupo discussed some of the most relevant issues that coaches and trainers may face working in sports. We considered contractual matters, issues regarding negligence and we considered some of the most topical sports injury matters of recent times.
“Court of Arbitration for Sport and Doping Allegations” 2014 Chair of the Panel discussion on Doping in Sport & Arbitration in the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 28 March 2014. Tony Nolan SC and Malcolm Holmes QC discuss some of the world’s most high profile sports doping offences including that of Spanish professional cyclist Alberto Contador, who was stripped of his 2010 Tour de France victory and American Baseballer Alex Rodriguez – how were these cases conducted and the issues and obstacles in conducting sports arbitrations
“Sports, risk and the fine print” Lecture at the 2013 Sports Club Management Expo
“Athletes Behaving Badly: Off-Field Behaviour” Legalwise seminar on the 26th of May 2010, on the topic of ‘Acting for Athletes Facing Police Charges’, and covered: • Managing the media • Pleading guilty or not-guilty • Relevance of other sanctions from other bodies • Fixing the problem – restitution, counseling or community service before court
“Sports Law Update – Negotiating the Sporting Contract”, delivered to lawyers at the Leo Cussen Institute, Continuing Legal Education, 19 November, 2007, Co-presenter, Paul Hayes, Barrister.
“The Coach & the Law – Level 1 coaches qualification course”, for AFL Victoria, delivered to all Victorian Australian rules coaches seeking accreditation or re-accreditation, delivered April 1, 22, 29, 2008, numerous times 2006-2009.
“Legal Issues in Athlete Management”, delivered to students at Deakin University, Masters of Sports Management course, 23rd April, 2008, and April 2009 (covers topics such as doping, disciplinary tribunal hearings, marketing the athlete’s image).
“Protection of Rights, Participants Issues at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games – Athletes, Doping, WADA, Whereabouts and BALCO”, delivered to lawyers at the Law Institute of Victoria Sports & Major Events Conference, 8th March, 2006, RACV Club.
“Best Governance Practice in Sports Organisations & Leagues”, delivered April, 2008, to the Board of the Victorian Waterpolo Association, based on an award winning paper on the same topic by Paul Horvath
